Tellurian 2014 GSM

Varieties: Grenache 51%, Shiraz 28% and Mourvedre 21%
Region/G.I.: Central Victoria, Heathcote
Vintage: 2014
Closure: Screwcap
Alcohol: 14.8%
Colour: Deep purple
Bouquet: Tar, plum concentrate, raspberry
Flavour: Fruit according to the nose, with refreshing acidity and the slightest of tannin. Medium body.
Points: 85.0 (3+7+11+7+7+50)
Notes:  A very nice wine to share. About $30

 

Bloodwood 2015 Big Men In Tights

Varieties: Cabernet Franc and Malbec
Region/G.I.: Central Ranges, Orange
Vintage: 2015
Closure: Screwcap
Alcohol: 13.0%
Colour: Deep raspberry
Bouquet: Slight, creamy strawberry
Flavour: Nice acidity with lingering creamy strawberry in the finish. Not too serious but refreshing
Points: 82.0 (3+5+11+6+7+50)
Notes:  Useful in dealing with 33 degree days. $22~396

Taken to lunch today. The description from last year still applicable. A lovely drink.

Il Civettaio 2007 Sangiovese

Variety: Sangiovese
Region: DOC Montecucco
Vintage: 2007
Closure: Cork
Alcohol: 13.5%
Colour: Purple/copper
Bouquet: Plummy with a hint of liquorice
Flavour: Surprisingly light given the nose. Light, sour cherry flavour with thyme like herbs as well. Rather short and slightly too acidic
Points: 81.0 (3+7+10+6+5+50)
Notes:  I was unsure if this was bad or not, having opened an earlier bottle which was corked. After 24 hours, its doing well but I've had better Sangiovese. Tasted at an Italian wine show a few years ago, I can't remember how it should taste. $33~594Kc

Leconfield 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Region/G.I.: Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Vintage: 2009

Alcohol: 14.0%
Colour: Purple with a bronzed hue
Bouquet: Mulberry, tobacco leaf
Flavour: Excellent fruit flavours of mulberry and blackcurrant integrated so nicely with the long, lingering tannins. Some sweetness of oak in the mix and the smallest hint of spearmint as well.
Points: 89.0 (3+7.5+12.5+8+8+50)
Notes:  An excellent wine. $38~680Kc
 

Kooyong 2015 Massale Pinot Noir

Variety: Pinot Noir
Region/G.I.: Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula
Vintage: 2015
Closure: Screwcap
Colour: Ruby
Alcohol: 13.0%
Bouquet: Sour cherry and some wet stone. Subdued.
Flavour: A touch of tomato stalk, combined with even cherry flavours and some freshly pealed bark. A nice tannin structure underlines the wine and provides a lingering finish.
Points: 85 (3+5+11.5+7.5+8+50)
Notes: The clear favourite and winner of our tasting. We probably didn't give the wines time to open up as they were opened and poured in our bling tastings. I will have to buy some to cellar.
